i read a lot of agatha christie mysteries. i collect the hercule poirot ones... they're super. it's still semi-intelligent, there are always interesting psychological case studies, and they're even fun on rereading.
what's your favourite genre for casual reading?

Anything by Sophie Kinsella! Her stories are so funny and her characters always get into the most absurd misadventures!
I guess Sophie's not exactly a genre, so I would have to say either chick lit or murder mysteries for the genre's in which I indulge!
These days I most like reading things that make me feel smart. When I walk around Chapters I am drawn to the classic books I've always heard about, the ones that have acheived awards or a degree of fame, or the ones that look really obscure but deep. Then I intersperse that reading with silly stuff. It turns out to be pretty eclectic. So I'm always open to new recommendations!
hey, btw, i read some alexander mccall smith for a bit, michelle. you were into him, weren't you? i seem to remember you mentioning "the no. 1 ladies detective agency." i read three of his isabelle dalhousie books, out of order.
amanda, you'd like it, i think. it's clever writing, with many philosophical tangents, and some silliness. after three books, isabelle herself was more than annoying - pedantic, way too philosophical, always quoting poets - but i think i'd be willing to go back for more after a good break.
I read one of his books and enjoyed it (the no.1 ladies detective agency that you mentioned), but haven't had a chance to read anything else by him yet. I'll have to check out those other ones!
Yeah, I read "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency," but I didn't like it enough to continue on with the series or read anything else McCall had written. I would be willing to give him another chance though. Sometimes my opinions about books are based more on where I am at than on the book itself.
