my pick
so this would be my vote for the first book. I've wanted to read his work for a while. He is apparently one of the greatest contemporary Canadian writers alive. (woot woot support for Canadian Lit.) (He is also Sri Lankan)

in case you can't make it out, the title is "divisadero." it won the 2007 governor general's award and was shortlisted for the giller prize. having actually received this book on my last birthday, i'm totally in.
are there any other candidates?
